Are you one of those persons who packs as if you’re preparing for the apocalypse when you travel? And then find that you don’t need half of the stuff you packed? Don’t worry. We’ve all been there, done that. Just take out that kitchen sink and get ready to learn how you can pack more effectively for lighter, smarter travel.
Packing Tips for Lighter, Smarter Travel
Make a (master) list and check it twice
Even Santa makes lists. There’s something powerful about writing things down. No matter how sharp you think your memory is, having a list is a safeguard from forgetting a necessary or basic item, like medication. We all need helpful reminders.
Write your packing list as if you were going grocery shopping. Then tick each item after you’ve packed it in your luggage.
Writing a list of things you’d like to bring makes all the difference, much like when you make a shopping list for going to the grocery store. It helps to do this long before you start packing, so that you’re not in a rush.
You can use this master list for every trip, and tweak it accordingly.
Plan your outfits
You’ve done your research on the weather you’ll face in the places you plan to visit. You know how long you’ll be staying, and your itinerary is all set.
The next step is to plan what you’ll wear. Your itinerary will guide this process.
Consider taking one or two pairs of footwear that will match most of your outfits. Also, pack outfits instead of single items, which add up. Aim for functional outfits instead of those that make a fashion statement. You can jazz up the same jeans or dress with different tops or accessories to achieve stylish and varied looks. Make it a fun, creative challenge. Cabarete is a laid-back surf town, so it’s pretty much boho and casual here. Plus, ladies, we don’t want your Louboutin heels to get stuck in the sand.
If you’re traveling during winter, wear heavy, bulkier pieces, such as a jacket, coat, or boots, instead of trying to cram them into your suitcase. Layering is also a great option, and those items will fit our next point. Luckily, you won’t have to deal with that in the DR. It’s forever summer here, which will make it super easy for you to pack light. After all, fitness wear and swimwear don’t require much space.
What will you need when you vacation with us? Bring beach towels because we don’t provide them. And lots of sunscreen. Don’t bother to bring your name-brand sneakers because we have a no-shoes gym.
After you’ve finished packing, review and take out half of everything. That’s right. If you’re honest with yourself, you won’t need them anyway. Just think back to past trips.
Pack the KonMari way
Consider ditching a suitcase that’s as big as your house. Depending on the length of your trip, you’ll have a good idea of the suitcase that will suit your needs. After you’ve chosen an adequately-sized suitcase, the next step is to make sure that you know how to do KonMari folding, which works for your storage at home, as well as for packing. You’ll save tons of luggage space that will come in handy for any light shopping that you plan on doing..
Get a head start
Blink, and summer will soon be here. Before booking your stay at our Fitness Camps, you can get a head start now on making that master list and checking it twice.
Travel light. Let that be your life’s mantra. It will leave more room in your life for all the things that really matter.
