A guide for people living a busy, corporate, city life
Even if you are living the busy, corporate city life, there is no reason not to eat healthy food. There is a lot you can do every day that can help you live a healthier life. Here you can find some great ideas on how to inject health and vitality into your daily routine.
Your main objection is probably going to be that you don’t have enough time, but you will discover that a balanced diet and a busy daily lifestyle can go hand in hand. We’ll show you how.
When you have a busy schedule, it is much easier to indulge in the first snack you find in your fridge when you come home tired and hungry. If you remove all the temptations from your kitchen, you will make healthier eating choices. Fill the fridge with salads and fruits, and your cabinets with nuts and seeds that will be there for you when you return. Make them your only after-work choices.
The fridge isn’t just for your ice cream. If you do not have the time to cook daily, you can make a list of the meals of the week, cook them, and store them in the freezer. You can plan your menu for the week and prepare as much food as you can on Sunday. Cut vegetables to get them ready or cook meals to eat throughout the week. Ready-made dishes in the freezer will save you valuable time.
Rarely will we eat all the food we cook, and since we would rather not throw it away (unless it is spoiled), let’s use it for other meals. Is it chicken? A perfect addition to tomorrow’s salad. Do you have some leftover vegetables? Put them in an omelet the next morning.
What would our life be like without color? That might sound philosophical, but let’s look at it literally. All the colorful fruits and vegetables we see in the market. The pigments that give them their lovely colors are actually nutrients, and most of them even have strong antioxidant properties. Try to have at least three colors on your plate every time you eat. You will soon feel the difference in your body.
If your first thought when returning home is to order a pizza, you might want to think again. If you think about it, you are likely to wait more than half an hour for your meal to arrive. How about you spend your time cooking something quick and healthy, such as whole-grain pasta with a homemade tomato sauce? It’s not perfect but easy to do, and a lot healthier than ordering a pizza!
Unfortunately, work is the place where most of us neglect our diet. Because we often don’t have anything prepared, our lunch breaks can turn out to be a very bad habit. Instead, make sure to prepare mini-meals for the office with healthy snacks, such as nuts, fruits and yogurt.
It doesn’t take much time to prepare something simple to take with you. All you have to do is fill a bowl with unsalted nuts and dried fruits, and you’ll have the perfect snack. Almonds, cereal bars, and rice crackers are all perfect. This way, you will avoid visits to the automatic machine, which usually include crisps or chocolates.
Don’t forget to drink water during the day, because the body often confuses hunger with thirst. If you are not excited about the taste of plain water, you can try drinking green tea, which can invigorate you during the day. A homemade protein smoothie can also save you when you need a quick fix. Try this recipe for a healthy and yummy smoothie, as well as some useful tips about your liver health.
Sometimes it is easier to give up—just this once—and forget about your balanced diet. So it would be a great idea if you were to talk to someone in your circle who is also trying to stick to some healthy habits. You can share ideas and support each other when things get tough. Keep in mind that you can also join a Facebook group or other online forum where you can exchange ideas about a healthy lifestyle. You can also follow us and our sister Taino organic farm, and shoot us a message for inspiration.
If you are ready to jump-start a new healthier lifestyle and you just need a little push and some good solid advice, you can come to the Caribbean and join a Fitness Camp in the Dominican Republic. You will enjoy a sports and fitness holiday, and you will also receive excellent advice about healthy nutrition, not only during the holiday but also in the city.
At the Fitness Camp, most of the food they offer is homegrown in their near-by organic Taino Farm. Plus, they offer lots of fitness choices. Apart from classes at their sweet Tiki Gym, you will have the opportunity to try Calisthenics and HIIT, and even circus arts like flying trapeze.
Yes, you will return to the city a brand new person!
