Many people who come to the Caribbean are looking for the perfect body to sport at the beach, but hitting the gym and getting physical has more benefits than muscles and six packs! Scientists have been doing studies for decades to show how physical fitness helps increase brain function and improves overall mental health in all ages.

eXtreme Fitness Camps is located at eXtreme Hotel, a small beachfront Caribbean eco hotel. Not only do we offer fitness and weight-loss camps, group runs on the beach and water activities, we also have a beautiful open air gym for your workout routines! Getting outdoors is very important for us as humans, it helps naturally boost our self-esteem, without us even doing anything, boost self-confidence and elevates mood levels through Vitamin D, which is naturally provided free by the sun! Vitamin D helps fight disease, reduces depression and boosts weight loss!

Staying physically fit also affects your mental wellbeing –

  • Releases Endorphins – Get those happy chemicals flowing! Exercising for 30 minutes a few times a week has been proven to lessen symptoms of clinical depression.
  • Reduces Stress – Stress has a major impact on our bodies, it can lead to heart problems and digestive issues, as well as skin conditions and flare up other underlying health issues.  Exercise increases norepinephrine levels, a chemical that helps moderate how our brain reacts to stress, helping you stay level headed and keeping your overall stress at a manageable, healthy level.
  • Improves Sleep – Your sleep habits have a huge effect on your physical and mental health. Getting the proper amount of sleep help regulate your metabolism, memory, stress and immune health, it also gives the body time to heal itself and rejuvenate cells that it just can’t do while you’re awake.
  • Grow Brain Cells – A rigorous cardio routine helps create new brain cells and boosts BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) levels, maintaining the health of existing neurons and supports growth of new neurons and aids in synapses health (synapses allowed neurons to communicate with each other through electrical or chemical signals). This all helps with learning and retaining information, increases memory function and improves higher thinking!
